A Structured 3-Term Journey

Over 11 months the course is divided into three progressive terms, each building upon the last

TERM 1 — Foundations

You will build the essential grammar and structural framework needed to begin analysing Qur’anic verses with clarity. 


Focus includes: 

  • Nouns and adjectives
  • Nominal and verbal sentences 
  • Gender and number
  • Core prepositions
  • Demonstratives and pronouns
  • Perfect verbs and weak verb patterns


By the end of Term 1, you will begin recognising recurring structures across the Qur’an.

TERM 2 — Depth & Linguistic Precision

This term introduces rhetorical elements and deeper grammatical shifts that unlock additional layers of meaning. 


Focus includes: 

  • Imperfect verbs
  • Derived verb forms
  • Subjunctive and jussive moods
  • Relative sentences
  • Weak verb conjugation
  • Introduction to balāghah (rhetorical studies)


You will start seeing how form shapes meaning

TERM 3 — Integration & Application

The final term consolidates your learning and develops listening and analytical skills. 


Focus includes:

  • The vocative
  • Imperatives
  • Conditionals
  • Passive structures
  • Advanced noun cases Oaths and exclamatory forms


By this stage, you will be equipped to analyse verses with confidence

and independence.

Your Guide in this Journey

Arabic Through the Qur’an is taught by Ustadha Ola Shoubaki, founder of Arabic Gems Institute. 


With a BA in Arabic from SOAS and a Master’s degree in Arabic Linguistics from the International Islamic University of Malaysia, she specialised in the science of Ishtiqaaq (Arabic etymology) — with particular focus on its role in uncovering the deeper meanings of the Qur’an and its usage in classical tafsir. 


Since 2007, she has dedicated her work to guiding English-speaking students beyond translation and into the structure, roots, and linguistic precision of Qur’anic Arabic itself. 


Her teaching style is clear, structured, and deeply rooted in the classical sciences — while remaining accessible to those without prior formal study. Over the years, hundreds of students have studied with her to build lasting foundations in the language of revelation. 


This course reflects over two decades of refinement, research, and lived experience in teaching Qur’anic Arabic in a way that is both rigorous and transformative.
